Unicorn arrives at the new Cunard Line pier in East Boston.

June 4, 1840

The first steamship of the Cunard Line to arrive in Boston, it docks at the new Cunard Line pier in East Boston. The ship carries only 24 passengers, but makes the trip to fulfill contract obligations to provide four ships offering regular service at its new port of call. A larger ship arrives to officially inaugurate service six weeks later.*
